Attention girls! The 2014 Northern California Cherry Blossom Queen Program Committee is searching for young Nikkei women that are passionate about serving in their community to promote Japanese- American culture. The Queen Program will take place on Saturday, April 12 at the 2014 Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco’s Japantown.
As a part of the Cherry Blossom Court you will:
- Serve as ambassadors for the Japanese American community of Northern California
- Participate in community events to preserve, promote and perpetuate Japanese-American culture
- Serve as role models for current youth
To be a qualified candidate you must be:
- At least 18 and no older than 25 years old by April 12, 2014
- At least 50% of Japanese heritage
- An American citizen who has lived in Northern California for at least 3 years
- OR a foreign national with permanent resident status of at least 1 year and has lived in Northern California for at least 3 years OR a foreign national living in the Northern California for at least 3 years
- Single and not previously married
All candidates must submit a typed essay of no more than 500 words in English or Japanese (translated,) answering the prompt “Why I desire to represent the Japanese American community as Cherry Blossom Queen.”
