Ever wonder what it would be like if you had a career in music, art, or fashion?

On February 26, Mnet America will be premiering their new series “Alpha Girls.” The eight episode series will follow four successful Asian and Asian-American woman as they navigate through their careers in the art and entertainment industry.

The “alpha girls” featured are DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA, artist Mina Kwon, model Soo Joo Park and Lanie Alabanza-Barcena, founder and lead designer of Hellz Bellz. The four women are unique individuals that have had great success in their respective fields.

TOKiMONSTA hails from Los Angeles and has been praised by MTV and Billboard, and was chosen as the top female DJ in Los Angeles by LA Weekly.

Soo Joo Park is a high fashion model who has walked the runway for top designers such as Vivienne Westwood, and has appeared in editorial publications such as Vogue Korea.

Lanie Alabanza-Barcena started her own clothing line, Hellz Bellz in 2005. Her line features pieces that display an edgy bad girl vibe.

In the realm of KPOP, Mina Kwon’s fresh and urban style artwork has been used and shared with Korean music artists that include the members of Big Bang and Jay Park. She has also designed album art for Chris Brown and Sean Kingston.

The career paths of these women share similarities to KPOP artists. The entertainment industry is extremely stressful for idol groups and solo artists who spend endless hours perfecting their singing and dancing, not knowing if they will be the next big stars. Out of the many rookie groups who debut, the ones that stand out with that extra spark will rise to the top and become the alpha groups in KPOP.

“Alpha Girls” is a series that gives a fresh and positive look at Asian women. Working in the art and entertainment industry can be stressful. The “Alpha Girls” featured in this series shows that there are successful Asian women who have made a mark in their field and have beat the odds in this competitive industry. Best of luck to them all on their continuing careers!
