Korean Rockstar: Shin Dae- Chul

Shin Dae- Chul is a Korean rock legend. He is the guitarist and leader of the famous Korean rock band, Sinawe. Sinawe was an active band between their debut album in 1986 to the early 90s. In 2013 they released their new EP titled Mirrorview.

His dad, Shin Chung-Hyan is known as one of the founders of Korean rock music. Shin Chung- Hyan drew inspiration from psychedelic rock music of the 1960s. He loved American music so much that he even built his own radio to listen to the music! Following in his musical footsteps, Shin Dae- Chul made his mark in Korean music in the mid 80s with his metal rock band that made a mark in the Korean music scene.

Former members of Sinawe include Seo Taiji and Bada Kim.  Seo Taiji was part of the group Seo Taiji and Boys, which also included the founder of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, and Lee Juno. Bada Kim is currently a singer, songwriter and producer, and has also appeared on Immortal Song 2 from 2013 to 2014.

 

On December 2,  Shin Dae- Chul will be speaking at UC Berkeley at an exclusive symposium.
