On July 11, the summer festival K-POP & Beyond showcased traditional and modern Korean culture in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
The festival began with traditional Korean percussion performances by EGO of UC Berkeley and Il-Hyun Kim. Hwa Rang Kwan Martial Arts demonstrated taekwondo punches and kicks. Connect2Korea members and local school groups showcased modern Korean culture through music and dance.
The highlight of the festival was the 2015 K-POP San Francisco Preliminary Competition. A total of nine talented contestants competed for a chance to go on to the next round to perform and compete in Korea at the K-POP World Festival. Singer Allysse won third place, dance group XTRM placed second, and the first place went to dance group SoNE1.
This festival was put together by the KORUS foundation (Korea-US Cultural Exchange Foundation) and Connect2Korea.
