Black Day

It’s time to celebrate being single with Black Day! If you did not receive any gifts on Valentine’s Day or White Day, here’s your chance to ponder the joys of being single over a bowl of jajangmyeon (Korean black bean noodles).

April 14th marks a South Korean tradition for singles to dress in black attire and eat jajangmyeon together. Jajangmyeon originated from Chinese cuisine but has evolved over time to become a popular Korean comfort food. The Korean version of this dish includes thick noodles mixed with a black bean sauce made from chungjang (soybean paste), diced pork, and vegetables. Sounds like the perfect bowl of carbs to eat while contemplating one’s love life! Fitting with the color theme, sales of black coffee also spike on this day. While the tradition sounds sad and dark, we love any excuse to stuff our faces with jajangmyeon! Are any of you planning on celebrating Black Day?
