KNK Descends From Above with “Angel Heart”

안녕하세요 fellow K-pop readers,

I’m sure many of you  have gone through the experience of caring deeply for someone but being unable to express your feelings due to many different reasons. This song that I am about to review hits that spot right in the bullseye. It brings all of the feels, so you guys better prepare for some heartache when listening to this song (I know I did 😔). Let’s dive into “Angel Heart” by KNK.

A quick background on the group before we go into the song. KNK is a fairly recent five-member group that debuted under YNB Entertainment in February of 2016 with their first mini album Knock coming a month after. The interesting fact about them is that their average training period was 5 years, so they have had plenty of experience developing their vocal abilities.KNK stands for K-Pop kNocK which is meant to symbolize them knocking on K-pop’s door with their music. Let’s see if they have grabbed our attention with this track.

Song Review:

Despite sounding like the  typical Korean ballad, certain moments in the song sound more fitting towards the American market than the Korean (that piano in the beginning reminds me of “Let Her Go” by Passenger 🤔). The acoustic guitar sets the pace of the song very well from the beginning. The addition of the piano and the synthesizers of the second verse adds more color to the ballad. The use of  synths fading in and out was a clever way to change up the dynamic of the song. While faint in the background, the claps matched the beat and added more volume. Overall, the production was good, but the song seemed to miss that special piece to really stand out from other ballads.

This track, however, does show off the group’s vocal talent. The harmonization between all the members was done very well, as each of their voices bounced off each other nicely. When the chorus hits, all the voices harmonize and become one, which makes the song sound even more emotional. The adlibs in the background by random members  just brings the emotions to another level. There were a few minor things that I noticed; sometimes the backing track would slightly overpower the vocals and prevent us from hearing the full extent of their abilities, but that could just be a minor mistake during production. Overall, a very good song and good start for KNK.

Song Rating: 7.5/10

(Since “Angel Heart” is not a title song, there is no MV to review this time. Instead, watch their performance! )
