EXO, though still a relatively new group, represented Korea as one of the 10 finalists in the EMAs’ Worldwide Act award. EXO was nominated alongside with Justin Bieber, One Direction, Cody Simpson and more at the 2013 MTV European Music Awards’ Worldwide Act. The 2013 MTV EMAs took place at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on November 10.
The 10 nominees for Worldwide Act were chosen from a total of 186 artists hailing from 51 countries. All of the nominees for Worldwide Act were determined by initial fan voting in each country. With the help of dedicated support from fans, EXO won Best Korea Act, beating out boy bands B.A.P, Boyfriend, U-Kiss and girl group SISTAR.
In 2011, BIGBANG made waves and took home the European Music Award for worldwide act, beating out superstars such as Britney Spears.
Although nominated, in the end it was China’s new pop sensation Chris Lee who had won the award for EMA Worldwide Act 2013. However, with their hard work, determination and large fan base, there’s no doubt EXO could be nominated for a win next year.
