Last weekend K-pop fans near and far congregated in sunny Los Angeles for ‘All Things Hallyu’. About forty percent of the attendees were from outside of California. This year more than 42,000 fans got a chance to attend various workshops, eat delicious food, purchase K-pop merchandise from vendors, and attend two K-pop concerts.
The concerts were split up into two nights and were filmed for Mnet America’s concert special, M COUNTDOWN 2NIGHTS IN LA. Saturday’s concert included B1A4, G-Dragon, IU, TEEN TOP and VIXX. Sunday’s lineup included BTS, CNBLUE,Girls Generation, Jung Joon Young and SPICA. Before the concerts, selected lucky fans got a chance of a lifetime to see their favorite artists up close through the exclusive artist engagement sessions.
In addition to the concerts, more than 130 guests ranging from YouTubers to Korean drama actors and actresses attended. KCON attendees were able to see performances by these special guests and participate in workshops hosted by some of them. These guests included Youtuber violinist Jun Sung Ahn, dancer and choreographer Aimee Lee Lucas, Korean American K-pop artist Eric Nam, and actor Lee Seung-Gi.
The ever growing popularity of K-pop and Korean culture around the world is evident. This year the attendees at KCON were over twice the amount as compared to last year. KCON was made possible through Mnet America, CJ E&M, and the many sponsors who have helped support the Hallyu wave.
