The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco will hold their annual Korea Week beginning October 1, 2018. The week will be filled with exciting, informative Korean cultural experiences all over the Bay Area for all to attend.
During the week, the Consulate will be holding Korean culinary, beauty, and art classes, as well as a ceremonious reception and commemorative concert held on the National Day of Korea, October 3, 2018.
Spotlight courses held during Korea Week include Healthy Features of Korean Cuisine, which will look at the health benefits of two of Korea’s most famous representative dishes: bibimbap and samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup). Taught by two chefs and an oriental medicine doctor from the Bay Area, the teachers will share the healthy philosophy of Korean cuisine. This is a free event held by the Consul General of the Republic of Korea on October 5, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at Kotra Silicon Valley (3003 N 1ST ST, SAN JOSE, CA 95134). Join the USF Center for Asia Pacific Studies for an exciting exploration of Korean beauty at the K-Beauty: Panel on October 2! A panel of four K-Beauty experts will be speaking what makes K-beauty unique, the latest trends, and how can YOU get that K-beauty glow! On October 4, the Asian Art Museum will be holding the event: ‘Portraits of Time: A Conversation on Korean Art’. Part of their Talks and Lectures evening program, you can join artist Koo Bohnchang and collector Frank Bayley as they discuss collecting, Korean Whiteware, and how contemporary art practices reshape our views of traditional Korean art. Moderated by Hyonjeong Kim Han Associate Curator of Korean Art, this conversation will also provide insight into the current Korean gallery rotation which prominently features work from his recent series, Vessel.
