K-Beauty has been on a steady rise in popularity all around the world. Want to recreate some of those looks but don’t know where to start? Here are 5 K-beauty makeup trends that idols love to add to their makeup routine.
Smoked out Eyelids
Itzy’s Ryujin has appeared several times recently wearing a very simple and popular makeup trend among idols — smoked out lids. To get this look, just take one eyeshadow shade and blend it to create a bit of depth to the eye. In Ryujin’s case, she has a burnt orange color that is blended out to create a smokey effect, complimenting her outfit nicely. Her look is perfect for the warmer months and can work with a variety of shades such as browns, oranges, reds, and even golds.
Heart Stamps
Perhaps you have seen this makeup trend circulating on social media recently in which someone has heart or star stamps on the cheek or under the eye. Twice’s Chaeyoung poses with heart stamps on both of her cheeks in a row of selfies from Twice’s new album, giving off a cute yet edgy look. These stamps can either be drawn on with eyeliner (felt tipped is best for precision) or eyeshadow; or can be created by using a face stamp.
Blushed Cheeks
Putting on blush can add some much-needed color back to your look while transforming your face at the same time. Hyunjin from Stray Kids posted a selfie on Stray Kids’ Instagram looking youthful with a delightful pink blush on his cheeks. He was also seen wearing smoked out eyeshadow from look #1. Bonus points!
Blush has been a K-Pop idol favorite for a while. Experiment with your own blush colors to add a personalized playfulness to your look.
Gradient Lips
G-Idle’s Miyeon posed for a selfie on the group’s Twitter, dazzling with
her smokey red gradient lips. This K-beauty trend has been a mainstay in K-Pop looks for a while now, most commonly replicated with various shades of red and/or pink. To achieve the look, start with a base of nude lipstick or tinted lip balm. Apply your darkest lip shade on the inner rim of your lips and then smudge the lipstick out to finish off the look. Wear this look matte or glossy depending on your personal preference.
Straight Eyebrows
Taemin of SHINee and SuperM posted a great example of the straight eyebrow trend on his social media. Compared to the sharp and arched Western eyebrow trend, K-beauty emphasizes a more natural brow that is thicker and straight. Sometimes the brow is curved a bit for a softened look, but the key for the straight brow shape is to have a minimal arch. Many people thought the best way to achieve this eyebrow look was to shave off the tail of their eyebrows but here is a better method: Start by brushing the eyebrow hair upward, especially towards the tail of the brow. Fill in the bottom of the brow lightly to create a soft, straight line along the brow, and then lightly fill in the rest of the shape, continuously brushing the tail to straighten out the point.
