The Rose released their 2nd mini album Dawn on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The tracklist includes: “I Don’t Know You,” “She’s in the Rain,” “Take Me Down,” “Insomnia,” and “She’s in the Rain (Instrumental).”
Consisting of members, Woosung, Hajoon, Dojoon, and Jaehyeong, The Rose debuted under J&Star Company on August 3, 2017 with their song “Sorry,” and came back with their latest single, “She’s in the Rain.”
“She’s in the Rain,” depicts the image of seeing someone you love suffering, and longing to be a support for them. The somber lyrics beautifully create an empathetic message about love and loneliness.
Unfortunately some controversy came along with this release. The music video for the song, included photos taken from SHINee’s Jonghyun’s instagram, who sadly passed away last year, which put J&Star under the scrutiny of fans. J&Star Company issued an apology to both the fans of The Rose and Jonghyun, his family, and SM Entertainment, stating, “Both we at J&Star and at Beat Logic believe that this incident was not intentional with the purpose of using a particular, tragic figure for business or marketing purposes.” The music video was subsequently removed from Youtube.
In spite of the controversy, this album is refreshing to hear among the usual K-pop sound, giving off similar vibes to that of a Korean drama soundtrack. The Rose’s discography makes the group stand out with their acoustic and soft pop rock style, and emotional lyrics that tackle the more serious aspects of love, life, and relationships.
Hearing their voices and their sound will send shivers down a listener’s spine. This group has a bright future ahead of them, as anyone can relate to the messages in their music and lyrics that make listeners reflect on the relationships in their lives. The Rose reminds fans to support one another through difficult times in life and to remember that you are never alone.
It looks like The Rose is going down the path of success, with their sold-out Paint It Rose international tour that came to a close, and being named as one of Billboard’s “Top 5 New K-Pop Artists to Watch in 2018.” The music video for their debut song, “Sorry,” has also gained over 8 million views, an amazing feat for a rookie group from a small company. The Rose surely has the potential to grow an even bigger fanbase and receive more love for their music.
