KPOP-TV’s Staff Picks of 2018

Wow! 2018 went by super quick! In no particular order, we present to you our favorite songs and music videos that came out this past year. Let’s see if your favorites were on our list!

APRIL – “Oh! my mistake (예쁜 게 죄)”

It’s just a fun tune that needs to be in everyone’s playlist!

Dua Lipa & BLACKPINK – “Kiss and Make Up”

We are absolutely in love with the instrumental and the whole collaboration between these fierce young ladies.

TAEYEON – “Something New”

Taeyeon’s femme fatale concept and mature sound was a breath of fresh air in the K-pop scene.

KEY – “센 척 안 해 (One of Those Nights)(Feat. Crush)”

We like “One of Those Nights” because it’s just different enough from the main trend but still very comfortable to listen to besides the other hit songs in K-pop. The mix of R&B, House, and the acoustic guitar make it a fun song to listen to any time even if the message in the lyrics is rather sad.  We were very impressed to see new facets of Key’s talent shining brightly in this solo, and also surprised to see this unlikely collaboration with Crush. Their voices are quite complementary in this song. The video is both visually stunning and relatable with its portrayal of everyday scenes, tinged with the mood of the song. 10/10 would recommend.

MAMAMOO – “Starry Night (별이 빛나는 밤)”

With “Starry Night”, MAMAMOO delivers a solid track and breathtakingly beautiful music video. The video captures the magnificent colors of New Zealand while the lyrics tell a story of a waning relationship.

CHUNG HA – “Roller Coaster”

Chung Ha’s “Roller Coaster” has a melody and instrumental that never fails to lift our mood and instantly makes us feel happy and want to get up and move!

BTS – “Anpanman”

BTS would be the ones to come up with a super catchy song about being an unconventional hero.  The uplifting lyrics say that you don’t have to be physically strong or have to save the whole world from mass destruction, but can be a superhero to others in ways that don’t require superpowers. In BTS’s case, their music is the power that inspires their fans.

NU’EST W – “HELP ME”

We just love this song. The ending of video brought us chills when NU’EST W foreshadowed Minhyun coming back!

B1A4, Oh My Girl, ONF – “타이밍 (Timing)”

We love this Christmas music video by the WM family! Not only is this their first ever music video together, but it brings a smile to our faces because all our favorites from WM are together as a family.

JBJ95 – “Home”

After the dissolution of JBJ we thought that was an unfortunate end to a group with some very enjoyable music. Then earlier this year, JBJ95 came out and soothed our hearts that were wondering what could have been. Their title track “Home” is a wonderful compromise between soothing ballad and the youthful, energetic music that JBJ previously released. “Home” is also a fitting introduction for the JBJ95 album, which is perfect BGM for relaxing, studying, or just about any activity.

BLACKPINK –  “뚜두뚜두 (DDU-DU DDU-DU)”

This bop is fun and upbeat! It’s perfect for your workout playlist while hitting the gym. Also, Rosé and Jennie share a special connection with Australia and New Zealand like one of our staff members. Represent!

EXO-CBX – “花요일 (Blooming Day)”

“Blooming Day” has a funky sound that stays within the style that CBX debuted with, but with a fresher and smoother vibe.
